Germany: grid-scale battery storage
Every battery storage system of 1 MW or larger operating in Germany, from the federal register — 500 systems, 4,028 MW, 6,774 MWh.
What the register shows
Germany has 500 operating grid-scale battery storage systems of 1 MW or larger, totalling 4,028 MW of power and 6,774 MWh of energy, as recorded in the Marktstammdatenregister on 10 August 2026. The fleet-average duration is 1.68 hours. A further 2,675,482 smaller battery systems are registered, almost all residential, and are excluded here — as is pumped hydro, which the register files under the same technology class but which is a different asset with a different job.
Monthly additions
By commissioning date. The final months are provisional — registration lags commissioning.

For comparison: non-battery storage
The register files both under one technology class. They are not comparable assets: a single pumped-hydro reservoir holds more energy than the entire battery fleet.

Method and source
Every figure on this page is a count or a sum of values as registered in the Marktstammdatenregister (MaStR), published by the Bundesnetzagentur. The export behind this page is dated 10 August 2026; extraction and aggregation by kWhintel. Baseload News adds no modelled or estimated values to this tier. Where the register is incomplete we say so rather than filling the gap. Units of 1 MW and above are treated as utility-scale; below that the register is dominated by household installations, which are aggregated here and never listed individually.
