What the register shows
Germany has 518 operating grid-scale battery storage systems of 1 MW or larger, totalling 4,224 MW of power and 7,146 MWh of energy, as recorded in the Marktstammdatenregister on 22 August 2026. The fleet-average duration is 1.69 hours. A further 2,704,385 smaller battery systems are registered, almost all residential, and are excluded here — as is pumped hydro, which the register files under the same technology class but which is a different asset with a different job.
