OEG wins ICCP corrosion protection contract for Skyborn's 976.5 MW Gennaker wind farm in the German Baltic Sea

OEG has been awarded a subsea corrosion protection contract by OWP Gennaker GmbH for the 976.5 MW Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea[1], a project developed by Skyborn Renewables that is set to become the largest offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea once commissioned in 2028.

What OEG will deliver

OEG will provide Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) systems to protect the wind turbine foundations from corrosion throughout the wind farm's operational life. The scope of work covers a complete end-to-end solution, encompassing detailed engineering, procurement, manufacturing oversight, offshore logistics, installation, testing and commissioning of the ICCP system.

Engineering and procurement will begin immediately, followed by manufacturing support, system integration and offshore installation in line with the wind farm's construction programme. Offshore activity at Gennaker is expected to commence in 2027.

The ICCP-SAM tool

Working in partnership with cathodic protection specialist CORROSION, OEG will deploy the ICCP-Subsea Assembly Method (SAM), an innovative remote installation system jointly developed by the two companies that enables the safe and efficient installation of ICCP systems on offshore subsea structures while reducing installation complexity.

The tool's key characteristics:

  • Designed to remotely install ICCP anodes on monopile foundations of all sizes, at any depth, without the need for divers
  • Outer diameter under 800 mm, allowing it to fit through standard monopile hatches (850 × 950 mm)
  • Thrusters enable precise positioning, with the anode locked in place by rotation and a four-bolt fixation

The Gennaker award follows OEG's first EPCI contract using the same technology. OEG's Bluestream subsidiary previously secured a contract from Equinor and Polenergia to protect 100 monopile foundations at the Baltyk 2 & 3 offshore wind farms in Poland using the ICCP-SAM system.

The Gennaker project

The 976.5 MW Gennaker offshore wind farm received its construction and operations permit on 16 December 2025 from the State Office for Agriculture and Environment in Stralsund, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The permit cleared the way for a Final Investment Decision targeted for summer 2026, with construction planned over two years and commissioning in 2028.

The project will feature 63 Siemens Gamesa SG 13-236 turbines installed on monopile foundations, located approximately 15 kilometres north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. Once operational, Gennaker is expected to generate 4 TWh of electricity annually - equivalent to the consumption of approximately one million households.

Amazon signed a 600 MW power purchase agreement for output from Gennaker in June 2026, described as the largest single PPA ever signed in Germany.

The OEG contract adds a further piece to Gennaker's supply chain ahead of the anticipated FID. The award strengthens OEG's growing presence in the offshore wind sector and builds on the company's expanding portfolio of projects across Europe, where it provides integrated offshore construction, installation and asset integrity services. Whether Skyborn confirms FID before the end of summer 2026 - as targeted - will determine whether the 2028 commissioning schedule holds.
