Heelstone acquires 188 MWp Cypress Pointe solar project in Texas from Azimuth Renewables

Qualitas Energy's U.S. subsidiary Heelstone has bought the 188 MWp Cypress Pointe development-stage solar project in Sabine County, Texas, targeting a 2029 COD.

Heelstone Renewable Energy, the U.S. subsidiary of Madrid-based Qualitas Energy, announced on 5 August 2026 the acquisition of Cypress Pointe Solar, a development-stage photovoltaic project in Texas with a planned installed capacity of 188 MWp[1]. The seller is Azimuth Renewables, and the purchase price was not disclosed[1].

Project location and market position

Cypress Pointe is sited in Sabine County, Texas, within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market, placing it outside ERCOT and in a footprint that spans parts of east Texas and the south-central United States. Heelstone says the SPP location offers "considerable commercial flexibility," with potential offtake from:

  • Corporate and industrial customers
  • Hyperscalers
  • Utilities
  • Public-sector renewable energy procurement programmes

Commercial operations are targeted for 2029[1].

Heelstone's recent deal pace

The Cypress Pointe acquisition follows a busy stretch for Heelstone. In July 2026 the company reached financial close on three Illinois solar projects - Two Blues Solar (40 MW), Snapdragon Solar (28 MW), and Pike Solar (18 MW) - with a combined capacity of 86 MWp, all backed by long-term corporate PPAs with Meta. Those projects are expected to reach commercial operation by end of 2026.

Heelstone was founded in 2012 and has developed or brought into commercial operation more than 80 solar PV projects totalling over 1.2 GW. Qualitas Energy acquired the Durham, North Carolina-based platform in 2024.

Texas demand backdrop

The SPP portion of east Texas sits at the edge of a broader regional demand surge. The EIA projects that 40% of total U.S. utility-scale solar additions in 2026 will come from Texas, driven by data-centre load growth and industrial expansion. Heelstone cited expected electricity demand growth in the Sabine County region as a key rationale for the acquisition.

info Note

Cypress Pointe sits within the Southwest Power Pool, not ERCOT. SPP covers parts of east Texas and 13 other states, and operates a day-ahead and real-time energy market distinct from the ERCOT islanded grid.

What to watch

No offtake agreement has been announced for Cypress Pointe. The project still needs to progress through interconnection and permitting before construction can begin, with a 2029 COD leaving roughly three years of development runway. Whether Heelstone secures a hyperscaler or utility PPA - as it did for the Illinois portfolio - will be the clearest signal of how quickly the project moves toward a financial close decision.
