DeltaX to build $141 million BESS assembly plant in Monroe, Georgia

Seoul-based DeltaX will invest $141 million in a 100,000 sq ft BESS assembly facility at Piedmont Regional Industrial Park in Monroe, Georgia, creating roughly 250 jobs.

Seoul-based DeltaX announced on 14 August 2026 that it will invest $141 million to establish its North American manufacturing headquarters in Walton County, Georgia, adding another South Korean battery maker to a domestic BESS supply chain that is expanding rapidly under tariff pressure and rising grid-storage demand.[1]

What DeltaX is building

The company will develop a multi-phase campus on approximately 25 acres at the Piedmont Regional Industrial Park in Monroe, Georgia.[1] The first phase centres on a 100,000-square-foot BESS assembly facility, with additional manufacturing buildings for component production to follow, plus a separate North American corporate office.[1] The project is expected to create roughly 250 jobs.

DeltaX's product line spans battery energy storage systems, battery management systems, and AI-powered energy management software - all developed in-house, including cell packing and thermal management. The company says its cell-packing method eliminates the intermediate module stage in battery assembly, which it claims maximises energy density in utility-scale BESS containers while reducing component count.

Target markets include:

  • Utility-scale grid storage and renewable energy integration
  • AI data-centre power backup
  • Commercial and industrial applications
  • OEM customers

South Korean capital concentrating in Georgia

The DeltaX announcement arrives two days after LG Energy Solution began production at its 226-acre, 35 GWh Lansing, Michigan facility on 18 August 2026, where LFP cells for grid-scale ESS and NMC cells for Toyota EVs are now being manufactured.[1] The two moves together illustrate a broader pattern: South Korean battery manufacturers are using the US tariff environment and IRA domestic-content rules to anchor supply chains on American soil rather than export finished product from Asia.

Georgia is already home to battery and EV manufacturing from Hyundai Motor Group, LG Energy Solution, SK, and Qcells. DeltaX has an existing relationship with SK On, whose Commerce, Georgia plant is nearby; the two companies previously announced a partnership on BESS module design and localised US assembly using DeltaX's AI optimisation software.

The tariff and demand context

The timing is deliberate. Wood Mackenzie has forecast that developers with mature project pipelines and available capital rushed to safe-harbour projects in H2 2025 and will now work to secure long-term supply agreements with domestic BESS manufacturers. A US-based plant shortens lead times and insulates buyers from the tariff stacks that have made Chinese-origin cells more expensive - a dynamic that also drove LG Energy Solution's confirmed $4.3 billion LFP supply deal with Tesla, under which Lansing-made cells will feed Megapack 3 production in Houston from August 2027.

DeltaX is also active in Japan, where it is partnering with SoftBank Corp and Cosmos Lab to produce batteries at the former Sharp LCD factory in Sakai, Osaka, targeting AI data-centre and grid applications. A Series B fundraise in April flagged a planned 2028 IPO, with a factory in India already under development.

What to watch

The Georgia announcement sets a site and a capital figure but does not yet confirm a construction start date or a first-phase completion timeline. The key near-term question is whether DeltaX can secure anchor offtake agreements - from utilities, IPPs, or data-centre operators - that justify moving quickly from assembly to full component manufacturing on the Walton County campus. Governor Kemp's office has positioned the investment as part of Georgia's broader advanced-energy manufacturing cluster; how quickly the state's incentive package converts into shovel-ready activity will be the first real test of that claim.
